Heath, OH is a great place to live or to visit. It’s also within easy driving distance of many great destinations for day trips. Check out this list of some of the best spots for a visit.

1. Shallengerger State Nature Preserve

In the modern age, most of us probably spend a little more time than we’d like stuck indoors, staring at screens, so it’s fun to get out into nature. The Shallengerger State Nature Preserve offers visitors the chance to walk trails and observe a wide variety of wildlife. You could spend hours exploring the area, watching for birds in the branches or examining the wildflowers.

The reserve is located at 2468 Becks Knob Rd SW in Lancaster. It should take you around 45 minutes to reach it from Heath. Please note that no pets are allowed at the reserve.

2. The Dawes Arboretum

Dawes Arboretum is a historic attraction, containing a massive variety of rare plants over almost 2,000 acres. On your visit, you can wander the beautifully maintained gardens and learn more about flora from around the world.  

Admission is priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children from five to 15 years old. The Arboretum can be found in Licking Township, about a 20-minute drive from Heath.

3.  Carillon Historical Park

Carillon Historical Park is an open-air museum spanning 65 acres. It’s packed with historic attractions ranging from museum buildings to historic pieces of engineering. Admission to the park is $14 for adults.

The park’s address is 1000 Carillon Blvd in Dayton. It’s almost a two-hour drive from Heath to the historic park, but it’s well worth the trip. Traveling in a comfortable vehicle like the 2023 Ford Explorer XLT can make a long journey like this one pass by in an instant.

4. Buckeye Lake Museum

If you want to learn and have fun at the same time, Buckeye Lake Museum is the place to be. Exhibits include a large collection of local tourism memorabilia and a restored sternwheeler, Queen of the Lake II. You can even take a lake cruise on the boat if you visit ​in the warmer months.

The museum is located at 4729 Walnut Road ​in the town of Buckeye Lake. It’s ​just a 15-minute drive from ​Heath.

5. National Trail Raceway

If you’ve got a need for speed, the National Trail Raceway could be the spot for you! This short drag strip hosts a variety of events throughout the year. From drag races to car shows, there’s something for everyone.

​You can find National Trail Raceway in Hebron ​at 2650 National Rd SW. ​The drive will take around 15 minutes.
