A family of three, mom, dad, and child, with sunglasses and sunhats on are sitting/resting on the trunk of their SUV in a field.

Planning a fun day out with the family? At Coughlin Ford Heath, we’re lucky to have some fantastic local attractions just a short drive away. Here are a few of our favorite places to go that are near Heath, OH – we hope that you enjoy them as much as we do.

Newark Earthworks

The Newark Earthworks are ancient earthern enclosures, built by the Hopewell Native Americans between 0AD and 400AD. They are the largest enclosures of their kind in the world and have National Historic Landmark status. The surviving sections of the Newark Earthworks consist of three parts – the Great Circle Earthworks, the Wright Earthworks, and the Octagon Earthworks.

The Earthworks are set amongst some beautiful scenery and are an excellent place to take a walk, although you should take care to avoid walking on the earthworks themselves. We would particularly recommend taking the guided tour if you get the chance, and the museum is also worth a visit, although the opening hours are seasonal. The Great Circle Museum can be found at 455 Hebron Road.

The Works – Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology

The Works is a family-friendly museum with lots of things to interest both adults and children. There are plenty of exhibits here that showcase the local history and culture of Newark, and various hands-on scientific displays that your kids will love. The 30-foot SciDome Planetarium has a selection of presentations that will send you traveling through the galaxy.

One of our favorite activities is the glass-blowing, where you can watch the glass artist at work, or even try it for yourself. The gift shop contains hundreds of unique items of glassware, as well as many other interesting souvenirs. The Works is located at 55 S 1st St.

National Trail Raceway

The National Trail Raceway in nearby Hebron is a quarter-mile drag strip that holds regular exciting racing events that the whole family can enjoy. It holds various high-octane events throughout the racing calendar, including day and night races. The price of admission includes a pit pass, letting you get up close to the incredible machines and their drivers.

All the amenities you would expect are available here, with various options for fast food and drinks, and well-appointed bathroom facilities. If you’re particularly adventurous and meet the requirements, you can even buy a ticket to test your own road car on the racetrack. National Trail Raceway is at 2650 National Rd SW.

The 2023 Ford Explorer is the perfect SUV for going on a family outing. With its flexible interior, the PowerFold Third-Row Seat allows up to 7 people to travel in comfort, or creates extra cargo space at the touch of a button. Come to Coughlin Ford of Heath today to take the 2023 Ford Explorer for an unforgettable test drive.
